Legislation for Winter Tyres in Europe

In every European country the legislation regarding to the winter tyre regulation is different.

So it is always important to be informed about the current legislation to avoid financial penalties or the immobilization of your vehicle.

  • The German road traffic regulation (StVO) prescribes that motorists are required to adapt the equipment of their vehicle to the weather condition.
  • Violating this regulation leads to fines and may have punitive points added to the driving record.

  • No winter tyre mandatory but it can be specified for certain stretches.
  • But winter tyres are recommended in the winter time.

  • No winter tyre mandatory but they are recommended.
