Winter Tires are supposed to be used with wintery road conditions and low temperatures. They have a rubber compound which is enough elastic with low temperature to achieve a sufficient gearing and transmission with the underground.
There is no crossing winter tire legislation in North America but more and more areas which are always affected by ice and snow in the winter time are starting to put up rules. In the USA it is highly recommended to drive with winter tires in the north of the country.
Every time a TPMS sensor is replaced, it has to be activated and the vehicle ECU has to be reprogrammed with the unique ID of each sensor, otherwise it would not recognize the new sensors and indicate a TPMS failure. The programming involves certain relearn procedures.
During the winter tire season, when not only 1 but 4 tires, per car need to be replaced, the amount of work is considerable. Adding Programmable Sensors to the vehicle with the same TPMS ID's turns off the TPMS warning light without a relearn procedure.
